Knowledge Management

Document Actions

Knowledge management at Intercooperation is grounded in a recognition of the multi-cultural, geographically spread context in which we work. We have well over 30 different nationalities represented amongst our staff, who number over 500 individuals scattered across Europe, Latin America, Africa and Asia. It is our policy to make conscious efforts to encourage the creation, sharing, storing and wider use of knowledge at all levels within our organisation and our knowledge community (comprising, in addition to our staff, professionals closely associated with Intercooperation). We believe in creating an organisational environment in which staff members constantly learn, have a sense of belonging and contributing to a wider team, and are as a result creative and efficient in promoting socially inclusive, sustainable development - thus having a positive impact on the lives of the poor and otherwise disadvantaged. We constantly strive to be a learning organisation.

Intercooperation has since 2007 a knowledge management policy (English, PDF). It is also available in French or Spanish: politique de gestion des connaissances (français, PDF); política de gestión de conocimientos (español, PDF)

Knowledge management in practice entails a wide range of activities. A few examples are as follows:
  • Integrating KM into our human resource management to promote strong team spirit and regular sharing opportunities. We also practice staff rotation between different projects and countries.
  • Creating and sharing knowledge in our projects and mandates through the use of KM tools such as Open Space Technology, Appreciative Inquiry, Communities of Practice, Story telling, etc.
  • Sharing and storing knowledge through a web-based information system known as Memex. This links our projects, people, and important documents.
  • Disseminating knowledge through a wide variety of media - including, in addition to written and published documents, websites, films, songs, photographic records, etc.
  • Participating actively in a wide range of national and international networks and face to face events.
  • Implementing specific KM projects and mandates; these include ASOCAM , Validation of Water Experiences, CALPI , and SAAKTI .
