Income & Food Security
The Income and Food Security (IFS) group aims at securing the income and basic food consumption of low income rural households, by strengthening their production systems, their access to inputs and services and the positioning of their products on local, national and international markets.
Our strategy to contribute to food security and income generation at household level is twofold: It combines sustainable agricultural production and increased productivity with access to markets and related services. We strive to enhance the adaptive capacity of farmers and producer organisations to develop and implement sound agricultural production systems, enabling them to access markets getting a “fair deal” and to cope better with changing environments (climate, market forces, and politics).
At a more regional and national level, we contribute to the formulation of agricultural strategies and policies which should provide adequate framework conditions for farmers and farmers’ organizations to become more efficient in the production and marketing of their produce.
