FARM conference: "Which microfinance for agriculture in developing countries?" [2007-10-16]

Date: December 4 - 6, 2007, Bercy, Paris-France

Although present in rural areas, the response of microfinance institutions to agricultural demand is generally either insufficient or inappropriate. Family farms in the South face different constraints than do small entrepreneurs; their economic cycle is long, risk is elevated, profit margins are volatile, and financial service needs are concentrated in certain periods of the year, as is cash for repayment. Can existing microfinance models offer services that are truly useful to farming families? The conference will be structured by three plenary sessions and six workshops and provide direct translation english/french/spanish.
