Intercooperation Bangladesh was awarded two projects by Shiree, an initiative funded by DfID aiming at lifting one million people from extreme poverty by 2015.

The first project awarded proposes to promote, in the North-East Bangladesh, innovative agriculture techniques which allow extreme poor people to utilise natural resources which are usually not used or not valued. These include vegetable cultivation on fallow land or floating beds, cage fish culture, multi-layer crops cultivation, etc. This is particularly important in a region which is annually flooded and where there is a scarcity of land.
The second project addresses extreme poverty through an integrated system of livestock including the production of biogas. It will provide income and employment to a population that suffer from seasonal lack of activity leading to food insecurity.
