New Project in Albania

In a competitive bidding process, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation has awarded Intercooperation a project on decentralization and local development

The new IC "Decentralization and Local Development Program" (DLDP) in Albania aims at supporting municipalities and communes in northern Albania (Shkodra region) towards improved local governance, thus supporting the decentralization and transition process in the country. The programme is financed by SDC. IC will work in association with Urbaplan and different local partner organisations through a programme management unit based in Shkodra.

Main action lines of the programme

  • Participatory strategic municipal development planning
  • Capacity development of the municipal administration for improved municipal management
  • Fiscal decentralization and municipal financial management
  • Improved municipal public services
  • Participation of civil society
  • Strengthening regional networks and associations of local governments

Achieving more together

Helvetas and Intercooperation entered a strategic partnership in 2008. Within the next 12 months, they will become one organisation under the name of HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation.
