New Project in Kosovo
In a competitive bidding process, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation has awarded Intercooperation a project on decentralisation and local governance in Kosovo. This is the fourth such project that IC is implementing in the Western Balkans.
The new IC "Decentralisation and Local Governance Programme" in Kosovo aims at developing transparent and democratic governance processes at village and municipality levels, and developing efficient and effective decentralised administrative systems and mechanisms that improve basic service delivery. IC will work with different Swiss and local partner organisations in implementing the mandate. The main approaches and strategies are:
- work at village, municipal and central level, fostering interactions
- work with existing structures and procedures and improve them
- work up from concrete entry-point activities at village level
- direct collaboration with municipalities
- implement complementary activities at central level
- link to the regional and Swiss context
- integrate minorities, following a rights-based approach
- incremental, flexible and long-term approach.
