Micro-finance and IC
Intercooperation was happy to see Muhammed Yunus and the Grameen Bank winning the Nobel Peace Prize for "their efforts to create economic and social development from below".
The Grameen Bank has influenced the collaborators of Intercooperation's FEM
(
Finance Market and Enterprise
) team throughout its existence. It was of
great importance to our projects that Yunus succeeded in proving that the
poor are bankable and that it is not only possible, but very effective, to
work with women's groups in the financial sector. The partners of our
project in Bangladesh,
LEAF
, have all been
inspired in their micro finance models by the Grameen Bank experience. The Grameen Bank has demonstrated continous adaptation and enhancement of its strategies and structures, reacting to new findings and circumstances in an appropriate manner. The lessons learned have also inspired Intercooperation's projects, and have, wherever possible, been enhanced by facilitating savings by the poor.
