New Project starts in Pakistan
Intercooperation has recently commenced implementation of a new Integrated Natural Resource Management project in Pakistan, on behalf of SDC. The goal of the project is to improve livelihoods, especially of marginalized groups including women, through better natural resource governance.
The North West Frontier Province (NWFP) is classified as the poorest
province in Pakistan, having a high degree of poverty (42% of the population
is categorised as poor) and a high dependence on natural resources to fulfil
livelihood needs. Factors such as high population density in rural areas,
low literacy rate, limited cultivatable land and gender disparities (in
terms of low participation of women, especially in resource management) -
increasingly exert pressure on the province's fragile resource base. The
Project will be implemented in three districts, and will work with
multiple partners to promote integrated natural resource management in and
around designated forest areas, through a participatory learning
approach.Last modified 14-07-2006 11:20 AM
