Addressing spatial poverty traps

Document Actions
The activities of two of Intercooperation's projects, in Nepal and Madagascar, were highlighted at a recent workshop on Understanding and Addressing Spatial Poverty Traps, held in Cape Town, South Africa.

The workshop was jointly sponsored by CPRC, the Civil Society Partnership Programme of ODI, Trocaire and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

In a paper entitled  Addressing chronic poverty and spatial poverty traps in Nepal's middle hills: The Nepal Swiss Community Forestry Project , the activities of the NSCFP are described. A paper entitled Empowerment and poverty reduction in rural communities - a case study on changes in civil society and local government practices and lessons for influencing pro-poor policy details the activities of the SAHA project in Madagascar.

Full details of the workshop programme and copies of the papers presented can be found at the workshop website.
