Validation of Watershed Experiences (Poverty reduction and food security through people centred watershed programmes)

Key message: To validate watershed experiences and their contribution to poverty reduction and food security across institutions

Description

SDC has been supporting and implementing projects in the field of watershed management for several decades. A multitude of projects in different parts of the world show that in the course of time projects started to incorporate other development aspects like community mobilisation, participation and decision taking at local level, savings and credit activities or equity and gender issues.
The present project intends to validate past experiences in watershed development by way of a participatory learning process with selected country teams and local partners. Its overall objective is to identify successful strategies of poverty reduction, securing local food & nutrition requirements and stabilizing local ecosystems. The results shall provide learnings from practice across institutions. They will further help to specify priority issues of Water for Food and Nature as part of the core mandate of the NRE division.
