NRMP (SDC-Intercooperation Natural Resource Management Programme)

Key message: IC in Pakistan has evolved through gaining experiences in the field and effectively translating them in its programme development

Description

SDC-IC NRMP Office in Peshawar is Pakistan Delegation Office of IC. IC is mandated by SDC for implementing on its behalf the Natural Resource Management Programme. The overall aim of the mandate is "... to improve livelihoods of the rural population in the North West Frontier Province through innovative and sustainable development in natural resource management". The selection of partners and building partnership systems are the most challenging tasks. Stakeholders in NRM are numerous and their interests, at times, conflict. The major groups of partners are the users of natural resources, civil society organisations, government agencies and the private sector. While SDC is responsible for the strategic orientation, Intercooperation is mandated with programme implementation and development. IC in Pakistan is implementing six projects at present which include Project for Horticulture Promotion (PHP post project support), Farm Forestry Project (FFP), Community Based Sustainable Resource Management Project (CBRM), Innovation for Poverty Reduction Project (IPRP) and Project for Livelihood Improvement (PLI). SDC support is concentrated in the hills and mountains of Northern Pakistan, especially the North West Frontier Province (NWFP), and the Northern Areas. IC aims to operate in NWFP, Northern Areas and other parts of country as an independent organization registered in Pakistan.
