BSFP (Bulgarian-Swiss Forestry Programme)

Key message: Capacity building of all stakeholders in multifunctional regional forestry management to effectively implement national forest strategies.

Description

Since 2001, Intercooperation is commissioned by Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC) to implement a Forestry Programme in Bulgaria. The experience gained during the first phase starting in 1997 implemented by ETH Zurich formed the basis for the design of the present support to the forest sector. BSFP contributes to sustainable forest management with two main components:
a) capacity building of the national forest administration and other key actors to implement the ongoing sector reforms, including the training of trainers for practical forestry work, advocacy training of PHD forestry students and international exchange of experiences in seminars and workshops and
b) Introduction and support of multifunctional regional forestry planning with participation of all forestry stakeholders as a platform for setting priorities on future management of forest resources, contributing to decentralised decision making and partnerships.
BSFP works in the frame of the national forest policy and strategy to which it has contributed with a in-depths forest sector analysis and with a national forest fire management policy and strategy.
The Operative Centre of BSFP works in a team of 8 members through Sylvica Foundation that has a EN ISO 9001:2000 Certified QMSystem by Moody International Q-Zert GmbH.
