HPK - phase V (2010-2012) (Horticultural Promotion, Kosovo)

Key message: Kosovo horticultural producers are able to compete in quality, price and continuity of supply with imported products.

Description

The Swiss Project for Horticulture Promotion in Kosovo was launched in Spring 2001. The principal goal of the Project is to contribute to labour and income generation in the rural areas of Kosovo. Physical reconstruction and social reorganisation, as well as the establishment of modern service delivery systems in agriculture and agribusiness are supported and strengthened. The main challenge of HP-K is in enhancing the value chain: assisting local farmers (men and women)in the production of competitive, high quality vegetables and fruits for the local markets, fostering their marketing skills, supporting the substitution of imports, and exploring opportunities for working with all other actors involved in processing and marketing. A specific focus is given to input supply (nursery promotion). Support is provided to small enterprises engaged in post harvest activities and marketing initiatives. The Project works with a wide range of local partners and promotes an enabling environment for a strong horticultural industry.

Local partner: Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development

International partner: CABI Bioscience Delémont Switzerland, USAID-financed Kosovo Cluster Business Support Project
