Intercooperation is looking for an International Advisor specialised in private sector development (80%)
INTERCOOPERATION (IC) is a Swiss Foundation specialized in international development cooperation. Our working domains are Income and Food Security, Governance and Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change. Our main activities are thematic and methodological advisory services and the planning and implementing of development projects in all continents.

We are looking for an 80% position of

International Advisor specialised in private sector development


Duty station: Berne, Switzerland, with frequent trips to Eastern Europe and South East Asia

Duration: 2-year contract, with possibility of extension, start Mid-March 2010 (if possible)

Main tasks
  • Advisory and training services on private sector development - in particular, value chains in rural areas, local economic development and market development (M4P approach) - for IC’s project and program staff in the field and for external clients.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of projects and programs dealing with private sector development, including impact evaluation and result measurement.
  • Knowledge management, i.e. elaboration of case studies, organisation of e-learning and Communities of Practice for IC collaborators in the head office, delegations and projects and for strategic partners; link and exchange of experience and knowledge with other Swiss and international actors in the field of private sector development and M4P.
  • Participation in the acquisition of new mandates and projects in the field of M4P and private sector development.

Profile

  • University degree in socio-economics, business administration, finance or international relations.
  • Knowledge and experience in the domain of private sector development with a particular focus on value chains, local economic development and M4P.       
  • At least five years of working experience in the domain in development and/or transition countries.
  • At least two years experience in consultancy work.
  • Strong advisory and training skills.
  • Good communication and networking skills, as well as analytical and reporting skills.
  • Solid knowledge of basic statistics and database management.
  • Excellent oral and written command of English, good knowledge of German or French; good knowledge of an Eastern Europe language would be an additional asset.
